Elaine Diane Davis, age 74 was a longtime resident of Park Slope, Brooklyn growing up on 19th street and then in her own place on 21st street. Proudly born on "Mario" day, March 10th, 1951, she was destined to live an extraordinary life. She graduated from John Jay High school and then attended Kingsborough Community College and Baruch College in her youth. She studied Accounting, Computer Science, Business and Liberal Arts. She continued on to work in the business world, holding positions as a loan officer as well as a bookkeeper for several firms. She felt the next logical step was to pursue a career in accounting. Thus, decades after completing an Associate's program, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Hunter College. She was diligent in her studies and graduated Cum Laude (with honors and distinction) at the age of forty-three. She worked her way through school and most notably won competitive scholarships and countless other awards. Being the driven and highly motivated individual she was, she spent decades working in downtown Manhattan at the Institute of Community Living where she was a Staff Accountant for Client Revenues. This was a job she truly loved, and her colleagues could tell you that the feeling was mutual.
Following the death of her mother, Frances Davis in 2009 Elaine stepped into the role of proud matriarch of the family. Elaine was the eldest of five children. This included siblings: Joseph and twin brother, Walter (affectionately known to many as Junior) who predeceased her, Diana and finally Paula. She is also survived by nieces Brooke, Dawn, April, Gina, and Julie along with nephew, Frank and many cousins. She was predeceased in 2024 by her nieces Debra and Marie.
She was so proud to be an aunt and later, a great-Aunt. She loved hosting sleepovers and instilling her worldly values into the children of the family. She collected artifacts as a dinosaur aficionado, loved board games and traveling, playing Poker and Pokeno. She had many other interests, hobbies and traditions she passed on to the future generations of the family. Her nieces and nephew fondly remember her playing school, jewelry store and so very many other things with them while they were growing up.
Elaine was also a woman with a strong faith in God, spending much time at St. John the Evangelist church in Park Slope. She loved to travel and spent some time living in Kingston, NY, and Toronto, Canada as well. She retired to Georgia where she spent the final decade of her life living her dream in a warmer climate until she passed away on August 20th, 2025.
Despite the distance that separated them, she spent a great deal of time talking to family and friends on the phone and via video chat. It was there she continued to share her wisdom and fun memories, maintaining the relationships that were firmly planted in the strong foundation she helped to create. Despite her many travels, she always found her way back to her roots in Brooklyn. Thus, it was only fitting for her family to bring her back to her hometown so that her neighbors, friends and family can pay their final respects.
Elaine's family already misses her dearly; however, they know that God and her many loved ones that departed this earth before her welcomed her into heaven. She deserves to rest in the sweetest peace; may God rest her soul. The family now wishes to unite in prayer and share cherished memories by hosting a funeral service at Lockwood Funeral Home on Friday, September 12th from 7-9PM. This shall include a prayer service given by St. John's R.C.C.
