Louie Velazquez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie Velazquez, at the age of 75. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at Coney Island hospital on May 12, 2023.

Louie was born on August 3, 1948 in Puerto Rico. His parents Pedro and Rosa Velazquez moved the family to Brooklyn New York when he was a young child. Louie lived in the Gowanus projects area of Brooklyn. In his spare time he enjoyed jogging and playing sports in the Red Hook area.

The Velazquez brothers, Pedro (aka Pete) and Miguel (aka Mikey) were known for being great athletes. Louie enjoyed storytelling about his younger days of being a boxer and a baseball player. His careers as a Postman and a Porter were very dear to him. People who were truly close to Louie remember him for his for his sarcasm. 

Louie had the pleasure of knowing two beautiful women in his life. They both bore his children. Irma had three children, Letitia, also known as Nana, Damaris, and Daisy.  Lucy had two children Kimara and Omayra also known as Omi.

He was a great grandfather and is survived by his 11 grandkids: Jacob, Kiera, Xavier, Thalia Tamaris, Jayden, Jordan, Justin, Saneyda♥️, Elijah, and the youngest Natalya. He inherited five son-in-laws: Will Raphael, Lou, Jelani, and Joneil. Louie was a godfather to Maria Diaz also known as Tita and a father figure to many people within the family. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephews that are known as the rich uncle.

We will deeply miss him, but we know he is no longer suffering. We feel content knowing he is reunited with his parents and siblings. Until we meet again our angel you will always be in our hearts.
